The ratchet system, featuring a metal housing, rotating handle, and spring-loaded pawl, is the strap's core. To tighten, feed the webbing through the ratchet and pump the handle; each action enhances webbing tension, while the pawl locks into the ratchet's teeth, preventing slippage.

This innovative design allows for incremental tension adjustments, suitable for both delicate and heavy cargo. Once tensioned, the pawl acts as a fail-safe, ensuring the webbing remains secure until manually released, thereby preventing cargo shifts from road vibrations or abrupt stops.

Typically crafted from polyester or a polyester-nylon blend, the webbing is selected for its industrial strength and wear resistance. Its low stretch maintains consistent tension during transit and withstands UV rays, moisture, and chemicals.

Strength is measured by working load limit (WLL) and break strength (3x WLL for safety). The webbing is tightly woven to resist tearing, with reinforced stitching at stress points for durability. Its wide, flat shape ensures even weight distribution, protecting cargo.

End fittings, like S-hooks, J-hooks, flat hooks, and D-rings, attach the strap to anchor points. Constructed from heavy-gauge steel, often galvanized or zinc-coated, they resist bending, breaking, and corrosion.

Fittings are permanently attached, either sewn to the webbing with heavy-duty thread or crimped with a metal sleeve, ensuring no separation under load. Some feature safety latches, such as spring clips on S-hooks, to securely lock onto anchors, enhancing security during high-speed or uneven transport.
